I have recently been researching (FREE!) web conferencing options and I have come across a great option that I wanted to let people know about.

For those of you that are not familiar with the terminology, a webconference is similar to a videoconference or audio conference, and is held over the internet. You can type things that everyone in the room can see. Depending on how the site is set up, you can have one person speak and a lot of others listen, or you could have multiple people speaking and collaborating. You can share documents on the screen (PPT, PDF) and everyone can see them at one time. The "host" of the web conference can display their computer screen for everyone to see (or designate someone else as presenter if you want to take turns). A webinar is a seminar delivered live or recorded via the internet using web conferencing technology.

I am curious about how your organization celebrates Administrative Professionals  Day- Official or non official.

I am meeting with a few of my fellow Admins. this week to plan a social gathering for our peers. We have several locations here in Columbus and while we consistantly work with Admins located in the other buildings, many have never met in person. So a thought struck me to plan a small gathering with a few door prizes and maybe even a speaker. With this not being supported as a company function - meaning there is no budget (not that I have asked) - this event will completely be on our own.  I am thinking of starting out by gathering those that I work with most and let them spread the word to those they work with.

We are very excited about a new APW webinar for 2010. We are teaming up with Adecco to offer you an hour webinar on Administrative Professionals Day. We don't have the exact time or the final title nailed down yet, but we do know this:

What is the cost of a smile?

It is said a smile is worth a thousand words.  As a Administrative Assistant professional in today’s business, that is one of the top character qualities that will surpass you above everyone else.  I keep a small mirror hanging in my office.  When I answer the phone, I see myself in the mirror.  Put on the smile and your virtual smile will come through your voice.  It is your first impression that you make.  When you enter into a room, smile before you walk in and see how others are drawn to you. Fold your arms and have no expression, you will miss many opportunities.  Smiling shows you have a positive attitude, a genuine feeling that comes from within, and it touches lives.  Management will know you as being a positive influence.  I read recently the 90-10 rule.  90% of the things that are going to happen around you and that is going to influence you are beyond your control.   10% of what is going to happen is very much within your control and this 10% is what determines how 90% of your day will be.
